Paul Hlad is member of the firm's Coverage & Casualty Group and the Business & Professional Litigation Group.  Paul focuses his practice on civil and commercial litigation matters including products liability, premises liability, insurance coverage and fraud, with additional experience in medical and professional malpractice matters.  He also engages in contract reviews, negotiation and drafting for corporate clients while working in the firm's Raleigh, North Carolina office.

Representative experience and recent accomplishments include:

  • More than three-dozen cases tried to jury verdict, several with seven-figure exposure;
  • Defended and ultimately obtained a six-figure settlement for a physician sued by his former practice;
  • Precluded foreclosure on and obtained settlement funds for a homeowner who had their mortgage funds stolen at closing;
  • Regularly reviews and revises contractual documents for a retailer of multimillion dollar power generating equipment in North Carolina;
  • Initiates and coordinates accident site investigations for a nationwide rental company for stores in eastern North Carolina and defends any lawsuits that may result;
  • Obtained numerous successful results in motions hearings (including Rule 56 summary judgment) defending corporation and individual clients on products liability, premises liability and other negligence actions.

Paul has an entrepreneurial spirit which began prior to law school when he worked as a buyer/manager at CarMax and then founded Uniform Car Company, LLC.  After graduating law school and several years building his legal career, Paul's entrepreneurial spirit lead him to co-founding a law firm in the Raleigh-area. Paul leverages his business-savvy and management experience to help address client legal needs that best support their business.

Paul graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Finance/Risk Management. He earned his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002. He has lectured throughout the Southeastern United States on issues relevant to premises liability, sovereign immunity, bad faith/extra-contractual claims, ethics and negligence principles among other topics.  Outside the office he enjoys spending time with his family, trying to stay in shape and watching “the ole Gators play.”  Paul is married with two children. His wife, Lesley is a physical therapist in Chapel Hill. They are also active in their local community church.
