Mike DeCamps chairs the Sands Anderson’s Employment practice group. Mike has represented employers of all sizes on a wide-variety of employment issues including:

  • Defense of discrimination, wrongful discharge and retaliation claims
  • Employment contracts, policies and handbooks
  • Non-compete, non-solicitation, trade secrets and confidentiality issues
  • Wage and hour and other compensation claims
  • Employment torts and defamation matters
  • Workplace investigations
  • Administrative hearings, mediations and arbitrations

Mike also works with and counsels employers and management and executive-level employees on a variety of preventative employment law issues. He has lectured to employers, trade associations and bar groups on a variety of labor and employment law issues and organizes and presents a regular series of Employment Law Hot Topics in Richmond and other locations throughout the state.

Mike also handles a wide range of civil litigation disputes including commercial, contract, local government and personal injury matters. Examples of significant litigation matters he has handled to a successful resolution include the following:

  • Representation of a national real estate developer in defense of fraud and breach of contract claims involving an urban retail center
  • Representation of a corporation operating a nationally known tourism site in a corporate governance dispute
  • Representation of employers and employees in litigation over restrictive covenants and trade secrets
  • Litigation of wrongful death and defective product claims for both plaintiffs and defendants, including several claims for plaintiffs resolved in excess of one and a half million dollars
  • Defense of several Virginia counties in claims brought by citizens or trade associations challenging zoning or other regulatory actions taken by the counties or involving civil rights claims against the counties

Mike has been listed in the labor and employment law sections of Virginia Business Magazine’s Virginia “Legal Elite” every year since 2001 and in the Virginia Super Lawyers in 2006 and 2007. He is a graduate of Leadership Metro Richmond and has served for over a decade as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Richmond Ambulance Authority. He has also been involved in numerous community organizations, including serving on the Board of the Fan District Association, President of the West Richmond Little League and Senior Warden for his church.
