Kenneth T. Roeber - Counsel

Ken Roeber is a member of the Healthcare practice group and joined Sands Anderson after completing a two-year clerkship with the Circuit Court for the City of Alexandria.  He focuses his practice on medical malpractice defense, but he has also defended automobile liability claims.  He has also successfully represented healthcare providers in disputes with health insurance companies and in the resolution of investigations by administrative boards.

In addition, Ken has written and lectured to healthcare providers on a variety of topics, including Emergency Medical Services, HIPAA compliance, discoverability of internal incident reports, and the persuasive use of technology in the courtroom. His medical background includes three years as an ophthalmic medical assistant and four years as an Emergency Medical Technician with a volunteer rescue squad. Ken is also certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Division of Criminal Justice Services. He currently volunteers as a sworn auxiliary police officer with Chesterfield County.

Most recently, his cases have involved:

  • The death of a 21-month-old who had cerebral palsy allegedly due to negligent neonatal care.
  • A stroke in a 55-year-old man who presented to an emergency department with a heart rhythm abnormality after passing out, and who was placed on a blood thinner.
  • Death of an 18-month-old with Downs Syndrome allegedly as a result of a failure to diagnose a complication.
  • Death of a 69-year-old woman who presented to an emergency department suffering from a massive heart attack and who suffered a stroke allegedly as a result of a clot-busting medication.
  • Allegation of a retained surgical instrument from a 1991 surgery, which was dismissed as being filed outside the applicable statute of limitations.
