Prior to attending law school, Margaret worked as a registered nurse on medical surgical, ICU step-down, and psychiatry and substance abuse units. As a registered nurse, Margaret brings a unique perspective to the representation of health care providers. She has successfully defended a wide variety of providers in medical malpractice actions, including physicians, nurses, dentists, psychologists, pharmacists, podiatrists, and hospitals. Margaret also regularly represents nurses, physicians, dentists, and other health care professionals before the Virginia Department of Health Professions licensing boards and provides advice to providers on issues related to reimbursement, HIPAA and regulatory compliance, and risk management. Margaret was recognized by Virginia Lawyers Weekly for obtaining one of the largest defense verdicts in Virginia in 2004 and three of the largest defense verdicts in 2005. Her recent successes include defense verdicts in cases alleging the failure to diagnose coronary artery disease, the failure to recognize bladder cancer on radiology studies, and the failure to warn of the consequences of electroconvulsant therapy.
