Matthew Curtis is a member of the Healthcare group. He concentrates his practice in defending medical professionals and practices from claims of malpractice and advising on malpractice coverage issues. He is based in the Richmond office of the firm.

Matt began his legal career with a firm in Norfolk and most recently handled general insurance defense litigation with a focus on medical malpractice and auto accident litigation. His background also includes experience in the security industry and as a plainclothes investigator.

Matt focuses on carefully evaluating each case, identifying its strengths and weaknesses, and, most importantly, helping the client to determine his own goals in the case and then working to achieve those goals.  As an experienced trial lawyer, Matt recognizes the importance of extensive prior planning.  At the same time, recalling from his time in the Army that even the best plan does not survive first contact with the enemy, Matt recognizes that flexibility and thinking on one's feet are critical to successfully representing his clients.

He served in the U. S. Army as an infantry officer in the Desert Shield and Desert Storm campaigns after graduating from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point. He earned his JD from William and Mary School of Law.

Matt is actively involved in his church and contributes time to his alma mater, the William & Mary School of Law.  He also enjoys writing on matters of public interest and has been frequently published in the Virginia Gazette.  Matt enjoys reading and mountain-biking, but his greatest and most rewarding challenge is the one he shares with his wife: raising five wonderful daughters.
