Reid Broughton is a native of Blacksburg, Virginia, and a member of the firm's Business, Finance and Real Estate, Business and Professional Litigation, and Healthcare practice groups.

Reid counsels business and healthcare clients in a variety of matters, including organization, financing, and employment issues, and represents clients in medical malpractice defense. Reid has been rated BV* by his peers in the Martindale Hubbell Peer Rating system.

Reid has represented clients before the Virginia State Corporation Commission; all levels of the Virginia state courts, including the Supreme Court of Virginia; the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia; the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit; and the United States Supreme Court.

Reid has handled a wide variety of matters. Examples include:

• Represented large national corporations in EEOC claims and lawsuits alleging age, race and sex discrimination.
• Represented institutional lenders and borrowers in multi-million dollar financial transactions.
• Experienced in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions.
• Represented local homeowners before the State Corporation Commission in dispute over utility rates.
• Won the dismissal of two medical malpractice lawsuits based only on initial pleadings and defended the dismissals before the Supreme Court of Virginia.
• Prosecuted a lawsuit on behalf of a local software developer for damages from an "email bomb."

Clients have included individuals, small businesses, community organizations, and national corporations.

• Fowler v. Winchester Medical Center, Inc., 266 Va. 131 (2003) (trial court only) (upholding dismissal where plaintiff failed to qualify as personal representative).
• Commonwealth ex rel. Terry L. Strock, et al., Case No. PUE-2001-00716 (SCC 2003) (holding private sewer company not entitled to requested rate).
