Roy Terry is a member of the Business Group and the Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights team. He focuses his law practice on representing both businesses and individuals as debtors and creditors under all chapters of the Bankruptcy Code. He also serves as Chapter 7 Panel Trustee of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Richmond Division.
In over 30 years before the Bankruptcy Court, Roy has regularly served as counsel to Chapter 11 debtors in possession, and to individuals with business associations who must seek bankruptcy relief. He also has significant experience representing creditors and creditors' committees, including such representations in large Chapter 11 cases, and in serving as a judicially appointed receiver. Roy has been selected by his peers and listed in the Best Lawyers in America and one of Virginia Business magazine's "Legal Elite" in Bankruptcy/Creditors' Rights. He has been named as a Super Lawyer in the area of Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights by the publishers of Law & Politics magazine since 2007. Roy earned his law degree at the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review and received the American Jurisprudence Book Award for Bankruptcy. He graduated from the College of William and Mary in history. He also attended Bath University, England. As the son of a Virginia State Police Captain, he grew up living throughout the Commonwealth. As of January, 2012, Mr. Terry will commence a year of service as Chair of the Board of Deacons at River Road Church, Baptist, where he is also a longtime member of the Chancel Choir. In addition, he is currently a member of the Council at Richmond Hill. As an alumnus of Leadership Metro Richmond, Mr. Terry has continued to actively participate through LMR's Curriculum Committee.
