Stefan M. Calos - Principal

Stefan Calos is a shareholder of the firm and a member of the firm's Business, Finance & Real Estate and Business & Professional Litigation practice groups.  Stefan joined the firm in 2005 and practices in Sands Anderson's Richmond location.

Stefan has over 20 years of experience in matters including corporate law, commercial real estate, wills, trusts, and estates, business succession planning, and litigation.  He works closely with Sands Anderson's other attorneys to provide a complete range of legal services to local and foreign businesses, national lenders, local governments, developers, non-profit and other entities, accounting, medical, and dental practices, physicians, executives, business owners, entrepreneurs and private individuals.

Prior to joining Sands Anderson, Stefan practiced in his native Hopewell and he continues to maintain an office there.  As such, he provides a much needed larger-firm link to and presence in the Tri-Cities (Hopewell, Colonial Heights and Petersburg) and throughout Southside Virginia,  especially important now, given the expected growth resulting from the BRAC-induced expansion of Fort Lee.

Stefan is a key member of Sands Anderson's historic tax credit and conservation easement practice, an involvement resulting from a lifelong interest in historic preservation.  In Hopewell, he has served as chairman of the city's Architectural Review Board.

Stefan's community service includes representation of the Historic Hopewell Foundation, membership in the Hopewell Rotary Club International and on the Board of Directors of Meals on Wheels Incorporated.  In addition, Stefan served on the Strategic Planning Committee for the City of Hopewell, was a charter member of and counsel for Heritage Gardens Incorporated, counsel for Hopewell Preservation Incorporated, and director of the City Point Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA). In 2008, he was recognized by the Historic Hopewell Foundation, Inc., with the Heritage Award for service.

Stefan has been rated "AV" by his peers, through Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible rating for knowledge and ethics.
