On June 8, 2006, the Virginia Supreme Court issued two rulings which may adversely affect defendants in medical malpractice cases. In Bitar, MD v. Rahman, the Court made it more difficult for defense counsel to strategically object to a plaintiff's medical expert testimony. In Alcoy v. Valley Nursing Homes, Inc., the Court narrowed the applicability of the Medical Malpractice Act.
