The local government attorneys of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller have been selected as county attorney for Carroll County by the recently elected Board of Supervisors, Daniel M. Siegel, chair of the local government practice group, reported today.
James E. Cornwell, Jr., managing shareholder of the Blacksburg office, will serve as the principal attorney for Carroll County. "Having held this same responsibility some years ago, I feel that our firm understands the needs of Carroll and its citizens well, and that increases our speed and effectiveness in representing the county," Cornwell said.
Cornwell leads a team of eight attorneys in Blacksburg who practice in local government law, business law, real estate law, business litigation, workers' compensation and risk management. The local government practice is active across three firm offices including nine attorneys and represents counties, cities, local departments and authorities throughout the state, said Siegel.
Founded nearly 170 years ago, Sands Anderson has 70 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Christiansburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2011, it was ranked 11th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the state's largest law firms. Sands Anderson provides a full range of legal services to corporations and businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, state and local governments, the insurance industry and individuals.
