RICHMOND, VIRGINIA (January 26, 2007)…M. Pierce Rucker, II, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Sands Anderson Marks & Miller law firm at the shareholders’ meeting held on January 17, 2006, firm President C. Thomas Ebel reported today.
Rucker, who has practiced law at the firm for more than 30 years, will serve a three year term on the governing body of the firm. He has previous experience in the role, having served on the Board from 1999-2001. He joins Ebel and Benjamin W. Emerson on the management team. Ebel was re-elected President of the firm by the Board members.
“Pierce’s wise leadership and significant management experience will be a great asset to the firm’s growth, as we continue to embrace the many changes that are affecting the practice of law and the operation of law firms,” said Ebel.
Rucker’s legal practice focuses on management of a variety of health care matters, including defending doctors, nurses and public/private hospitals against medical malpractice claims and representation of healthcare professionals with licensure and other issues. He is a former President of the Virginia Association for Defense Attorneys, a former member of the Council of the Virginia State Bar and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Healthcare Council, an initiative of the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce to serve as a resource for individuals, businesses and healthcare professionals to the healthcare industry in the city and surrounding counties. He earned his B.A. at the University of Virginia and his J.D. at Washington & Lee University.
Ebel has over 25 years of experience in the areas of real estate, business, corporate, bankruptcy and creditors' rights law. He represents corporations and other businesses in mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructurings and a variety of other corporate and business matters. He counsels law firm owners and management on the special issues that these privately-owned service businesses encounter. He also represents financial institutions, developers, investors and local governments in a wide variety of real estate and other commercial transactions, as well as landlords and tenants in commercial lease matters. Ebel earned his B.A at Hampden Sydney College and his J. D. at the University of Richmond.
