Ken Roeber Receives Volunteer Honor from Chesterfield Police

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA--Kenneth T. Roeber, an attorney at the firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C., received recognition for his 1024.25 hours of volunteer service in the Chesterfield County Police Auxiliary Unit at the Department's Third Annual Volunteer Recognition ceremony, held on October 18 at the Eanes-Pittman Public Safety Training Center, firm president M. Pierce Rucker reported today.

"Ken is an outstanding example of the diligence and commitment found among our firm lawyers and staff, who selflessly give of their time and energy to hundreds of community causes," said Rucker. "As far as we know, he is the only Richmond lawyer who also serves as a sworn police officer on his own time."

Roeber graduated from the Chesterfield County Police Academy in 2006 after a nine month education and was sworn in as a police officer in the Department's Auxiliary Unit. He is a full-time medical malpractice defense and healthcare attorney with the Healthcare practice group at the law firm and is developing a civil rights and law enforcement defense practice based on his interest in law enforcement.

"Becoming a police officer was an interest of mine for a long time, part of my overall desire to be immersed in the justice system and serve my community," explained Roeber. "Working with civil litigation has its own personal rewards, but it is also a thrill to be out in the field responding to calls and protecting citizens," he said.

Roeber earned his J.D. at the College of William and Mary School of Law and his B.A. at the University of Virginia. He has been in private practice for ten years. His medical background includes three years as an ophthalmic medical assistant and four years as an Emergency Medical Technician with a volunteer rescue squad.
