Sands Anderson Lawyers and Davenport Financiers Plan To Assist Local Governments With Money Issues

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA--The local government attorneys at Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C. and financial advisors at Davenport & Company, LLC, will present a workshop and conference on February 6 in Richmond entitled "Managing the 2010 Budget - Strategies to Succeed" for Virginia local government senior management and elected officials, practice chair Daniel M. Siegel said today.

"With a significant amount of our work with counties, municipalities and authorities dealing with the funding of important local initiatives, improvements and projects, our clients are looking for leadership and guidance in these tough financial times," remarks Siegel.

The February 6 meeting at the Richmond Marriott hotel will be a half day workshop and conference dedicated to addressing today's funding realities including strategies that anticipate reductions in state contributions and local tax revenues. The seminar leaders are planning to cover topics such as strategies for maintaining a capital improvement plan while facing reductions in revenue; prudent uses of undesignated fund balances without adversely affecting credit standing; understanding and accessing credit markets in the current volatile environment; and evaluating debt portfolios for potential opportunities. The meeting is being co-sponsored by the Virginia Institute for Government and the Virginia Resources Authority, in addition to Sands Anderson and Davenport.

"Among the legal professionals at Sands Anderson and our own financial experts, we've developed strategies that are field-proven and effective in dealing with today's hard economic realities, and we will discuss many of these at our workshop and conference," explains David Rose of Davenport & Company.

The sessions will be presented without charge and by invitation only for local government representatives. The meeting will run from 9: 30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and will include lunch. Municipal staff and elected officials desiring an invitation may contact Siegel at  (804) 648-1636 or DSiegel@SandsAnderson.com.
