Russell LawsonBenjamin W. Emerson, an attorney in the local government practice group at the firm, was re-elected in January to a fourth three-year term on the law firm's three person Board of Directors by vote of the firm's owners, firm president M. Pierce Rucker reported today.
"Ben's careful guidance in finance matters as CFO and the trust that our owners have in his stewardship resulted in his re-election and we are grateful that he remains willing to serve our firm in this capacity," said Rucker.
Emerson's practice focuses on providing legal advice to local governments, including the areas of municipal bonds, real estate and economic development, zoning and land use planning. He serves as County Attorney for Caroline and Essex Counties. He earned his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Richmond, and also holds a M. F. A. from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Sands Anderson has been growing deliberately over the past twelve years, Rucker noted, and the firm's financial controls and conservative investment philosophy are key to the successful execution of its strategic plans, which Rucker credited to Emerson and other Board members.
"The Board is looking forward to another year of profitable growth and expansion consistent with our performance over the last several years," Rucker explained.Founded more than 150 years ago, Sands Anderson has 67 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Blacksburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and the Research Triangle of North Carolina. In 2009, it was ranked 9th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the states largest law firms.
