Graves was installed as President of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys (VADA) during October 2007, and will inaugurate his successor this month. He was the fourth Sands Anderson attorney to hold that position, and the first African-American to ever serve VADA as president. In January 2008, he succeeded Albert M. Orgain, IV, as chair of the firm's Risk Management practice group.

This month, VADA marks its 40th anniversary, he noted.
