Graves Takes Over Risk Management

Terrence L. Graves, shareholder at the law firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, has been appointed by the Board of Directors as Chair of the Risk Management Practice Group effective the first of the year, firm president C. Thomas Ebel announced today.

"Our firm is fortunate to have among our owners an attorney as talented in management and client service as Terrence, and we are relying on his skills and those of our other practice chairs to move the firm forward in our new and aggressive strategic objectives," said Ebel.

Graves takes over the management reins of one of the firm's largest groups of attorneys in 2008 by stepping into the chairmanship of the Risk Management practice. He succeeds Albert M. Orgain IV, with whom he has served as co-chair of the group for the last eighteen months. Like Orgain, Graves has spent his entire professional career at Sands Anderson Marks & Miller. He  has concentrated his law practice in commercial transportation insurance litigation, product liability, toxic torts and other complex civil actions.

Graves also serves the firm as chair of its Diversity Committee and was elevated last October to the presidency of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, becoming the fourth Sands Anderson attorney to hold that position.

"I believe that the current members of our Risk Management team are some of the most skillful trial attorneys I have ever had the privilege of working among, an achievement chiefly due to Al Orgain's keen eye for talent and his visionary leadership," noted Graves.

Orgain led the Risk Management team for almost two decades and brought to its practice national attention for expertise in aviation litigation, as well as successful long-term relationships with some of North America's largest insurance companies. Orgain will continue to practice law full time in the Risk Management team.

Graves earned his J. D. at the University of Virginia. He holds a B. A. from Howard University, where he graduated cum laude. He is listed in the "2008 Virginia Business Legal Elite" and "2007 Virginia Super Lawyers."
