Russell LawsonRICHMOND, VIRGINIA--Elaine R. Jordan, a shareholder of the Sands Anderson Marks and Miller, P.C. law firm and head of our construction litigation team, will join firm client The Coastal Companies of North Carolina as General Counsel in February, president M. Pierce Rucker announced today.
"We are delighted for Elaine and simultaneously disappointed to lose her counsel as one of our firm's leaders and owners," Rucker said. A transition plan is in place, and clients whose legal needs have been managed by Jordan are being served by the firm's other Virginia and North Carolina lawyers, he reported.
"This opportunity developed from the close working relationship that I and the firm have built with Coastal over the past years," said Jordan. "I am excited to take on the full range of legal and business issues that a large real estate conglomerate such as Coastal must deal with, and am counting on Sands Anderson to provide necessary support."
Jordan joined the firm after graduating from the University of Virginia with her law degree. She has been leading the construction law team since the mid-90's. Through the firm, she represents a number of developers, builders, contractors, subcontractors and real estate construction service companies in Virginia and North Carolina. She is a former member of the Virginia Bar Association Executive Council, Construction and Public Contracts Law Section. She has also served on the Board of Governors for the Virginia State Bar Construction Law and Public Contracts Section. Jordan has appeared repeatedly on the "Virginia Business" magazine Legal Elite list and was featured in a focus profile in the December 2008 issue.
"Elaine has been a key team member and worked tirelessly in our pursuit of growth over the last ten years," noted Rucker. "While Coastal will now have her undivided attention, our firm continues to serve a wide array of successful clients that Elaine has cultivated and represented over her career, and for that we are grateful."
The Coastal Companies, based in Brunswick County, North Carolina, is a real estate conglomerate whose business interests include the development, construction, sale and financing of residential, vacation and golfing communities in southeastern North Carolina. Rucker said the law firm will continue to represent Coastal on a variety of current and pending legal matters.
At Coastal, Jordan will be on the management team and initially charged with building an internal legal department as well as overseeing work by outside lawyers. She will also be directly involved in the strategic growth of the company, including long term planning, acquisitions and real estate development.
