Katz To Cover Upcoming FMLA Changes At Audio Seminar

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA --- Phyllis C. Katz, an attorney at Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C. in its employment law section will present a January 14 audio conference on the new Family and Medical Leave Act regulations that go into effect on January 16, firm President M. Pierce Rucker said today.

Ms. Katz, who is a shareholder of the firm, has been an employment and government attorney for almost 30 years, including serving three Governors of Virginia as the head of employee relations for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Among her notable achievements were selection in 2008 as the recipient of the State Bar's Lewis B. Powell, Jr., Pro Bono Award and as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation.

"These changes are the first significant amendments to the Act since it was first enacted in 1993," Ms. Katz explains. "Not only are there provisions for military personnel and their families but also substantial changes to the procedural requirements imposed on employers. No business should take them lightly," she points out. The regulations and commentary by the U.S. Department of Labor run over 200 pages, she notes.

The ninety minute session will begin at noon and end at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14. Those interested in participating are able to call-in on a toll free line from their desk or conference room and can invite as many attendees as they desire. This is an unique opportunity to train front line supervisors on the new regulations. Registration is $30 per call-in through December 31 (fee goes up to $45 after that date) and registration is on Sands Anderson's Web page at http://www.sandsanderson.com/news_events/event/fmla_2008_revisions_audio.html.

Founded almost 160 years ago, Sands Anderson has 74 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Christiansburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and the Research Triangle of North Carolina.
