Graves Named Vice Chair for Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel Membership Development and Retention Committee

(August 10, 2005) Terrence L. Graves, vice chair and partner in the Risk Management practice at the law firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, has been appointed vice chair of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel's Membership Development and Retention Committee, firm President C. Thomas Ebel announced today.

The Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC) is a group of lawyers primarily dedicated to defending civil litigation. It is an international organization, includes members from Australia, England, France, Canada, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. and limits it membership to approximately 1000 lawyers worldwide. Graves, a member of the Risk Management group since 1991, and vice chair of the group since 2004, has a wide practice among insured and self insured companies in the transportation and interstate commerce industries, where he advises clients on a range of insurance coverage and litigation matters.

"Terrence is a great example of an attorney who takes service among his professional peers as seriously as he does his fierce representation of his clients," said Albert. M. Orgain, chair of the Risk Management group at Sands Anderson.

Graves participates in the FDCC in the substantive law areas of Transportation, Toxic Tort and Environmental Law, Product Liability, Premises Liability and Security Liability. In addition to his service at FDCC, Graves is Secretary of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, a member of the Trucking Industry Defense Association, and a member of the Defense Research Institute, in which he currently serves as state representative for Virginia, all groups that are primarily interested in the defense of individuals and corporations in civil litigation.

Founded more than 150 years ago, Sands Anderson has 76 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Blacksburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and the Research Triangle of North Carolina. In 2008, it was ranked 9th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the state’s largest law firms. Sands Anderson provides a full range of legal services to corporations and businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, state and local governments, the insurance industry and individuals.
