George Peterson Is Elected Shareholder

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA--George O. Peterson of McLean has been elected a shareholder of the law firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, P.C., firm president M. Pierce Rucker announced today.

"The owners of the firm are pleased to have George join us and know he will apply his considerable courtroom and business development skills to the further growth of our D. C. Regional office and our firm," said Rucker.

Peterson focuses on business litigation, trusts and estates litigation, and professional malpractice defense. Recently, he was involved in complex litigation over issues of church property ownership for which he argued successfully in Fairfax County Circuit Court to have his clients retain control over their building and land.

In December 2007, Washingtonian magazine identified Peterson as one of the "defense lawyers Washington's plaintiff lawyers privately say they least like to see" opposing them on a case. Peterson earned his undergraduate degree, cum laude, at Georgetown University and his Juris Doctor degree at the University of Virginia School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Founded more than 150 years ago, Sands Anderson has 67 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Blacksburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and the Research Triangle of North Carolina. In 2009, it was ranked 9th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the state’s largest law firms. Sands Anderson provides a full range of legal services to corporations and businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, state and local governments, the insurance industry and individuals.
