Peterson Named One Feared By Plaintiff's Lawyers

George O. Peterson, a defense attorney in the McLean office of the Sands Anderson Marks & Miller law firm, was recently named in  Washingtonian magazine as one of the "defense lawyers Washington's plaintiff lawyers privately say they least like to see" opposing them on a case, McLean Managing Shareholder J. Jonathan Schraub reported today.

"We feel George has earned this reputation because of his effectiveness on behalf of defendants in civil suits as well as his tenacious representation of his clients' interests," said Schraub.

Peterson's practice focuses on business litigation, trusts and estates litigation, and professional malpractice defense. He has represented a wide array of individuals and entities throughout Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland, including attorneys, physicians, dentists, and engineers and institutional clients such as hospitals, clinical laboratories and nursing homes.

The article "Big Guns" appeared in the December edition of Washingtonian and listed lawyers in a variety of practices and firms, representing about one percent of the 80,000 attorneys in the District and surrounding Virginia and Maryland areas. The list was compiled from recommendations of practicing lawyers in the area, and included confirmation by Washingtonian staff of the ranking with additional lawyers, former judges and clients.

Founded more than 150 years ago, Sands Anderson has 67 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Blacksburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and the Research Triangle of North Carolina. In 2009, it was ranked 9th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the state’s largest law firms. Sands Anderson provides a full range of legal services to corporations and businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, state and local governments, the insurance industry and individuals.
