Job Opportunity: Director of Marketing and Business Development

Sands Anderson PC, a full service mid-size Mid-Atlantic law firm, seeks a business-minded creative to strategically lead the firm’s marketing and business development efforts across six locations. The position will support individual attorneys, practice groups and industry sector teams in addition to leading the firm-wide marketing, business development and community outreach initiatives.


  • Prepare, present and pursue marketing plans, ideas and opportunities;
  • Organize, secure and manage firm resources to achieve firm’s marketing and business development goals;
  • Advise and support individual attorneys and teams to identify new business opportunities from clients and potential clients;
  • Draft and provide guidance on client proposals and presentations;
  • Plan and coordinate events, seminars, webinars, continuing legal education workshops, and social receptions that support practice and office goals;
  • Develop client communications;
  • Implement branding campaign, digital marketing efforts, and public relations;
  • Source and manage vendor contracts and relationships;
  • Maintain strong, current knowledge of the firm’s business and legal markets including industry trends, ad spends and competitive landscape;
  • Coach lawyers on marketing and business development efforts;
  • Prepare office and practice submissions for directories, databases, and other publications;
  • Compile competitive intelligence and perform basic market research;
  • Produce client alerts, newsletters and electronic communications;
  • Develop and maintain mailing lists for external client communications;
  • Lead the planning and budgeting process for marketing and business development initiatives;

Essential Job Specifications/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business Administration or a related;
  • Minimum five (5) years marketing experience in a professional services environment;
  • Ability to deal professionally with both internal and external clients;
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and diplomatic manner verbally and in writing;
  • Proven ability to concentrate on the details of executing projects and partner with firm management to recommend business development strategies;
  • Willingness and ability to communicate and collaborate with team members across offices and practices;
  • Proven budget, project management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize;
  • Ability to manage deadlines and projects for multiple attorneys/groups ;
  • Ability to travel and work a flexible schedule to accommodate projects as needed
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and competence working in a web environment
  • Proven ability to think strategically and creatively, using good judgment and decision-making capabilities
