The Finance Department leads both the financial and accounting functions within the firm and supports partners with the full spectrum of financial management needs. The Finance Department is seeking a Finance Manager, who will develop, iterate, and utilize sophisticated financial models to lead and support the analytical agenda in the firm. The Finance Manger will manage a team of billing and revenue management professionals and will report to the Director of Finance to further the team objective of implementing finance best practices in areas of Budgeting, forecasting, billing, pricing, revenue management and profitability modelling and will use data to report on performance of the firm, while making attorneys aware of the financial ramifications of their actions.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Produce sophisticated financial analyses using established and new, creative approaches on the financial performance of the firm, including identifying risks, trends and communicating insights
- Work with Director of Finance to enhance the firm’s profitability model by iterating on the current model, measuring the key profit drivers and advancing the use of profitability reporting
- Work with Director of Finance to implement Budgeting best practices while reporting on actuals, and calculating variance against budget and targets
- Manage and supervise the billing and collections professionals of the Finance Department to ensure best practices are maintained. Help train staff and enforce policy. Help set billing budgets/goals. Balance need for procedures with flexibility to solve billing issues in new/efficient ways.
- Support the firm with financial analysis on revenue including reporting on the Billings, Age of A/R, WIP and collections
- Produce financial analysis in support of month and year-end reporting
- Produce tax local/state/federal reports as well as legal survey reporting
- Conduct competitive analysis on pricing for various bands of attorneys for different practice areas using market competitive research tools
- Support the firm’s quarterly analysis for performance management reviews of attorneys
- Support the firm with financial analysis on strategic business reviews
- Produce ad hoc reporting and analysis for attorneys
- Contribute to the preparation of various presentations for executive leadership
- Work with attorneys and firm leadership in reviewing/advising on team production and profitability
- Work concurrently with the Director of Finance and Director of IT to design and automate financial reports and dashboards that provide attorneys with insightful data to educate on their business
- Leverage the firm’s BI platform to facilitate the development and visualization of complex analysis
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Finance, Accounting or Economics degree preferred
- Minimum of 7 years + of relevant financial analysis experience. Previous experience in legal industry in finance and/or pricing is a plus
- Extensive experience creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets (creative use of formulas, macros, pivot tables & modeling) and building financial models and conducting financial analyses
- Experience in using data visualization tool such as Power BI is a plus
- Experience with SQL or SQL Report Building tools is a plus
- Experience with Legal Enterprise Systems like Elite, Aderant, SurePoint is a plus
- Exceptional attention to detail
