RICHMOND, Va. (March 4, 2022) – Sands Anderson PC today announced that Andrew R. McRoberts has been appointed to lead the Local Taxation Practice Group for the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia (LGA). He was appointed by LGA President Michelle R. Robl and confirmed by vote of the LGA Board.
McRoberts is a long-time litigator and Virginia local government attorney. He represents localities, boards of equalization, commissioners of the revenue, and other assessing officials in all types of taxpayer claims regarding local government tax assessments in all Virginia circuit courts, the Virginia Court of Appeals, the Virginia Supreme Court and the State Corporation Commission. His work also includes representing local taxing authorities and assessors in administrative tax assessment appeals before local and state administrative assessing authorities. In addition, McRoberts has many years of experience serving Virginia localities as a county attorney, legislative liaison, and litigator, which enables him to provide specialized outside counsel to local governments and their officials in a variety of areas.
LGA promotes the continuing education of local government attorneys and provides a forum through which members can exchange ideas and professional experiences. In LGA’s various practice groups, members meet and discuss issues of common interest and sponsor educational activities that meet the needs of group members.
Being appointed a Practice Group Leader brings McRoberts full circle, in a way. He served on the LGA Board of Directors for eight years, serving its President 2004-2005. During his tenure as Vice-President on the Board, McRoberts was asked to draft an LGA Practice Group policy, which the LGA Board ultimately adopted. The Local Taxation Practice Group was one of the very first such practice groups.
