Margaret F. Hardy Retires from Sands Anderson
RICHMOND, Va. (July 31, 2026) – Sands Anderson PC today announced that Margaret F. Hardy, a tenured attorney and former firm president, will retire from the firm following a distinguished career serving clients and the legal community.
Throughout her career at Sands Anderson, Hardy has provided strategic legal counsel on a wide range of matters, serving healthcare organizations, businesses, and local governments with insight and dedication. A registered nurse, she has drawn on her clinical experience when representing healthcare providers in medical malpractice actions, as well as investigations and proceedings before the Department of Health Professions. Hardy has also worked closely with Treasurers across the Commonwealth in the collection of delinquent real estate taxes, helping local governments recover millions in unpaid taxes.
In addition to her practice, Hardy played a key leadership role at the firm. She served on the firm’s Board of Directors for nine years and became the first female president in Sands Anderson’s 184-year history. From 2017–2025, she led the firm and fostered a culture of collaboration and professional development. Beyond the firm, Hardy has maintained a strong commitment to community engagement, serving as legal counsel to regional organizations and on the boards of several nonprofit and healthcare institutions.
Throughout her career, Hardy has been recognized not only for her legal work, but also for her leadership and service. In addition to numerous professional honors, she has been deeply committed to mentoring attorneys and staff, helping guide the next generation of legal professionals at Sands Anderson.
Margaret’s retirement marks the close of a remarkable career at Sands Anderson,” said Jeff Geiger, president of Sands Anderson. “She has made a lasting impact on our clients, our firm, and everyone who has had the opportunity to work alongside her. Margaret is known for her legal judgment and dedication to her clients and for the way she treats people with kindness, respect, and genuine concern. She has been an exceptional mentor and role model, and her influence will be felt long after her retirement. We are grateful for all she has done and wish her nothing but the best in this next chapter.”
Hardy began her career at Sands Anderson in 1995 and built a distinguished practice serving healthcare clients and local governments across Virginia. Her counsel, mentorship, and service have meant a great deal to the firm, and we wish her a wonderful retirement.
