Whitney E. Nelson-Crawford
Whitney works alongside public school divisions using her combined experience as a school counselor and lawyer to address the varied legal challenges that face Virginia school boards.
Whether assisting school board clients with personnel issues, student discipline, governance or related litigation, Whitney’s background shapes her approach to creative problem solving. She knows that being honest and transparent fosters trust and collaboration.
In addition to her education law practice, Whitney has a deep understanding of the employment laws that impact both public and private employers. She provides day-to-day advice and counsel and has experience defending employers against claims arising under state and federal law, including Title VII, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the FMLA, and the FLSA. She also helps employers with collective bargaining negotiations, workplace investigations, and employment policies and handbooks.
When not in the office, Whitney loves to ski, cook, play piano, and spend time in the garden with her husband, along with their dogs, chickens, and ducks, on their small farm in Hanover.
