RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — George R. Pitts, Esq. has joined Sands Anderson PC’s McLean office bringing his practice in bankruptcy and creditors’ rights and commercial litigation. The announcement was made by firm president, L. Lee Byrd.
Pitts most recently was a partner with Wiley Rein LLP in northern Virginia and brings significant experience and client representation including debtors, financial institutions, financing companies, franchisors, creditors’ committees, trustees, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) in bankruptcy cases throughout the United States.
“We are delighted that George has brought to Sands Anderson his excellent reputation and significant experience in bankruptcies, workouts, and loan restructurings,” said Byrd. “The addition of George is in keeping with the firm’s strategy to grow our litigation and bankruptcy practices in the Northern Virginia market,” added J. Jonathan Schraub, managing shareholder of the McLean office.
Pitts earned his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. He earned his Ph.D. and his M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. Pitts earned his undergraduate degree from Swarthmore College graduating with high honors and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Pitts has been named by his peers as 2015 “Lawyer of the Year” in the Washington, D.C. Bankruptcy Litigation by The Best Lawyers in America and has been included in the directory since 2009. In 2014, he was listed by Chambers USA as a “recommended practitioner” in Bankruptcy/Restructuring. He was also named by The Legal 500 US a “recommended lawyer” in Corporate Restructuring in 2013.
