Jason counsels public school boards on a variety of school law issues, with a particular emphasis on special education matters.
Jason helps school board clients understand their options and find the most effective means to resolve disputes and challenges. He counsels school boards on issues such as student discipline, student privacy and records, FOIA, policy development, employment, and constitutional law.
He has particular experience representing school boards in special education disputes, a public school board’s most common source of litigation and regulatory investigation. Daily, he counsels clients on legal issues ranging from compliance training and proactive prevention to providing legal support during IDEA and § 504 meetings.
Because disputes are common for school boards, as are state and federal regulatory investigations, Jason helps his clients successfully resolve cases through resolution sessions, mediation, or through direct negotiations with parents and their counsel. When necessary, he is experienced in arguing these cases in administrative due process hearings, as well as in state and federal court. He also represents school boards during state and federal government investigations and enforcement proceedings.
Jason’s clients appreciate his knowledge of special education matters and his desire to understand the innerworkings of their division to provide the most efficient counsel.
