Published on: 7/01/2011

Terrence L. Graves and John G. Butler, III of the Sands Anderson PC law firm's Risk Management practice, have been asked to join the Council on Litigation Management, firm President M. Pierce Rucker announced today.

"Terrence is the chair and John a key member of our Risk Management practice and we are pleased that they have received the recommendations of Fellows of the Council to become members of this national group of lawyers, corporations, risk management professionals and insurers," he said.

The Council is a nonpartisan alliance comprised of thousands of insurance companies, corporations, corporate counsel, litigation and risk managers, claims professionals and attorneys.  Through education and collaboration the organization's goals are to create a common interest in the representation by firms of companies, and to promote and further the highest standards of litigation management in pursuit of client defense.

Graves focuses his practice on commercial transportation litigation, in addition to managing the practice's team of fifteen lawyers. His work covers defense of commercial trucking, toxic torts, products liability, and premises liability cases. A significant portion of his practice also includes first party actions involving insurance coverage issues. He is a past president of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. He earned his B.A. from Howard University, cum laude, and his J.D. from the University of Virginia.

Butler concentrates his practice in aviation litigation, products liability, insurance coverage, and commercial transportation, which includes trucking and personal property transport litigation. He earned his B.S. from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the University of Florida.  He is retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve, after 20 years of active duty and reserve service and served as a helicopter pilot while on active duty, including a tour in Desert Storm.

Founded nearly 170 years ago, Sands Anderson has 70 lawyers practicing among its offices in Richmond, Christiansburg, Fredericksburg and McLean, Virginia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2011, it was ranked 11th in the Virginia Lawyers Weekly annual listing of the state's largest law firms. Sands Anderson provides a full range of legal services to corporations and businesses, healthcare providers, financial institutions, state and local governments, the insurance industry and individuals.
