McRoberts Helps Richmond Affordable Housing Get Project Moving

Published on: 6/15/2012

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA -- Andrew R. McRoberts, a Government group lawyer at the Sands Anderson firm, successfully represented Richmond Affordable Housing as pro bono counsel in a petition seeking a zoning variance from the city, enabling the completion of the urban infill development, Beckstoffer's Mill, in Richmond's historic Church Hill neighborhood, Government group leader Daniel M. Siegel announced today.

"As a result of Andrew's thorough preparation and masterful presentation, we can resume the transformation of this entire city block and create high-quality, energy-efficient homes for senior citizens and other mixed-income residents," said Robert L. Newman, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Better Housing Coalition and Richmond Affordable Housing.

"Our lawyers relish the chance to use their skills to further the interests of socially important and economically valuable public projects and Andrew's hard work was essential to this pro bono client," said Government group leader Daniel M. Siegel.

McRoberts focuses his work on land use and zoning, subdivision, real estate, tax assessment, special service districts, and other specialized advice and litigation for local governments in Virginia as well as for private clients needing a lawyer with local government experience and insight. He is the managing editor and chief author of  the Virginia Local Government Law Blog (http://www.valocalitylaw.com/) on local government issues and legal information in Virginia, for which he was recognized as a Leader in the Law in 2010 by Virginia Lawyers Weekly.

McRoberts earned his law degree at the University of Richmond School of Law and his bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary. He is a past president of the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia.
