Our maritime lawyers include former U.S. Navy officers John Butler and Doug Winegardner. Mr. Winegardner is a former Judge Advocate who served as Associate Admiralty Counsel for the Navy Department, advising the Secretary of the Navy and the Commandant of the Marine Corps on admiralty cases including:

  •     the USS SARATOGA's accidental missile firing at a Turkish warship during a NATO exercise that killed 19 crewmen,
  •     the USS RADFORD's multi-million dollar collision with the freighter SAUDI RIYADH off the coast of Norfolk, and
  •     the USS GREENVILLE collision with the Japanese fishing vessel EMIME MARU that killed 9 Japanese high school students, and many others.

Mr. Winegardner has also worked for the U.S. Department of Justice's Admiralty Litigation Section, representing nearly every federal government agency with an interest in vessels or waterways, in a wide variety of maritime litigation throughout the United States.
